Between March and November 2022, over 200 University leaders attended Digital Transformation workshops run by HolonIQ.
Workshops took place in London, Boston, Mexico City, Melbourne and virtually, bringing together senior leaders in roles across the student lifecycle in strategic planning, marketing, learning design, academic leadership, IT and digital innovation.
The interactive workshops offered a global overview of digital transformation and strategic shifts in higher education, unpacking the digital capabilities needed by institutions as they tackle digital transformation. During each workshop, participants were able to review the Higher Education Digital Capability (HEDC) Framework, map their institution’s digital capabilities against the framework, workshop digital transformation challenges, opportunities and solutions relevant to their institutions, hear from peer universities on how they are tackling digital transformation and network with other university innovation leaders from the region
We also invited our hosts and guest presenters in each location to share their own case studies and participate in discussion about their digital transformation journeys so far. Presenters and co-hosts at workshops this year have included Aaron McKenna (Group CEO, University College Dublin), Sabrina Seltzer (Director of transfer and entrepreneurship, Tecnológico de Monterrey), Greg Winslett (Deputy Director, Digital Learning, University of Queensland), Julie Voce (Head of Digital Education, Deputy Director, LEaD at City, University of London) and Susannah Quinsee (Vice-President (Digital and Student Experience), City, University of London).
For an inside view on the participant experience, Julie Voce shared a detailed review of the half day event at City, University of London: Thinking about digital transformation – report from HolonIQ Digital Transformation workshop
Reviewing the Higher Education Digital Capability Framework
A key session during the workshop looked at the Higher Education Digital Capability Framework, asking participants to identify strengths and areas their university needed to work on, as well as challenges and opportunities. Participants used 'People/ Process/ Technology' and 'Buy/ Build/ Partner' frameworks to explore challenges around digital transformation and the potential for different digital solutions.

2022 Digital Transformation Annual Survey
2022 marks the third year of HolonIQ's annual Digital Transformation Survey, tracking attitudes of transformation leaders at university institutions and those who work with higher education institutions. Last year's results showed that digital adoption and transformation is still the greatest challenge across regions globally, and for universities, low student enrolments, retention, budget cuts and access are also top of mind.
If you currently work at a university or work with university institutions, we invite you to be part of the 2022 survey cohort and tell us more about your own digital transformation perspectives.
