Upskilling Africa remains a key priority for the continent, with EdTech solutions focusing on the nexus between skills, work and jobs.
Africa has over 250 million young people - over one fifth of the world's youth population, and is set to grow by over 40% by 2050. With high unemployment or underemployment and education systems that are unlikely to adequately support training needs at the scale and speed required, alternative models are emerging to support scaled and job-ready workers for the global economy. Teams such as Moringa School and Decagon are examples of models aimed at bridging the skills gap and providing employment opportunities for African youth. Similarly, Semicolon is supporting gender inclusion in tech jobs and digital skills.

Solutions to support institutions, focusing on student success, learner analytics, financing education, and digital learning environments make up almost one quarter of this year’s list.
Over the past few years, school systems and universities have needed to digitize the student journey, both in and out of the classroom. This year's Africa EdTech 50 list has strong representation from K12 and Higher education digital solutions providers including those who support digital transformation and digital infrastructure for schools and universities, including EDVES, Excel@Uni and Zeraki and digital learning environments such as Klas, Lightbulb Education and Lessonspace.
