Bo Stjerne Thomsen is the Head of Educational Impact at LEGO Education, where he leads the global impact, curriculum, and experience design teams. Previously, he served as Vice-President, Chair of Learning through Play, and Global Head of Research at the LEGO Foundation. In this role, he was part of the executive leadership team, expert at the highest level, and spearheaded the international research and learning agenda.
Bo Stjerne has developed innovative programs across academic institutions, formal education, and informal learning environments, scaling the impact of creative and playful learning opportunities in more than 25 countries. He has built expert communities and collaborated with some of the world’s most esteemed universities, serving as an academic advisor to governments in over 15 countries and multilateral organizations such as the WEF, OECD, WISE, UN, and various corporate networks.
His leadership in programs and innovations is backed by academic rigor, clear governance principles, and innovative partnerships. He has been affiliated as an elite researcher, educator, and advisor to universities including MIT, Harvard, Tufts, Cambridge, EPFL, DTU, and Tsinghua University.
Bo Stjerne is trained as an engineer and architect, having designed educational institutions, performance spaces, robot installations and urban neighborhoods across three continents with a decade of international practice. He has authored more than 20 publications on innovative pedagogies, the role of technology in education, equity, new forms of assessment, and the reimagining of education based on the science of learning, creativity, and play.
