John brings 25 years of vertical SaaS experience with proven ability to develop, operate, and scale businesses from $10mm to $700mm.
As President and COO of CYPHER Learning, John leads a global team and day-to-day operations to deliver faster, more personalized and better learning outcomes for over 100 million learners.  Voted the #1 Enterprise LMS by Forbes, CYPHER Learning provides personalized and AI-powered learning experiences to businesses and academic institutions, including McDonald’s, Hyundai, Coca-Cola, Cengage, and Tecnológico de Monterrey.


Prior to CYPHER Learning, John was General Manager at EverCommerce, where he managed a global portfolio of SaaS and payment solutions for SMBs.  As a passionate and results-driven leader, he built high-performing teams to consistently achieve business goals, foster product innovation, and drive market expansion.  During the rapid acquisition of 53 companies, John led the integration and growth of 17 solutions to deliver $100mm in revenue, double-digit annual growth and EBITDA, successful IPO and divestitures.  


Prior to EverCommerce, John was VP of Strategic Partnerships at Blackboard.  He led the development of new portfolio solutions from customer research, investment cases, hiring, partnerships, to go to market launch growing $ARR from $0 to $25MM.  He created new sales intelligence tools, managed large deal capture, and built new strategic partnerships with University of Arkansas System, George Washington University, California State University System, Ivy Tech CC System, FAMU, and Syracuse.
Prior to Blackboard, John served as EVP of Admissions and Enrollment Services for 2U, where he managed partnerships with leading universities to deliver higher education degree programs online. His responsibilities included management of a 150 member sales, admissions, and enrollment services organization across four online master’s degree programs including MAT@USC, MSW@USC, MBA@UNC, and Nursing@Georgetown.  During his tenure, Kannapell launched and scaled new partner programs that delivered well-qualified candidates, increasing new student enrollment by +67% and revenue by +95%.


Throughout his experiences, John has always been a data-driven leader, encouraging teams to be data curious, ask why, test hypotheses, embrace mistakes, celebrate learning and continuous innovation.  His prior experience includes scaling successful SaaS solutions for companies like Harvard Business School Publishing, AOL, Google, Liberty Global, ExxonMobil, and HBO.
