Dr. Olga Yakusheva is an economist and Professor of Nursing at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, as well as the Economics Editor for the International Journal of Nursing Studies. She holds degrees in mathematics and economics (BS, MS, PhD) and completed post-doctoral training in health services research at Yale.
A leading expert on the economic value of nursing, Dr. Yakusheva influences national nursing policy and was inducted as an Honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2023. She has published extensively in nursing, economics, and health services research and leads multiple funded projects, including two R01s focused on optimizing hospital nursing care.
She serves as an economic advisor to the ANA Enterprise and The Joint Commission’s Nurse Stakeholder Committee. She also co-directs ANA’s initiative on nursing’s economic value and led the national summit, Re-imagining the Economic Value of Nursing. Her recent publications explore nursing reimbursement and value-informed practice.
