Health Tech solutions make up 38% of the list, with finance & technology, along with environment solutions next.
Puerto Rico is well known for its biotech, pharmaceuticals and life sciences industry, particularly in manufacturing and medical device production. So it's no surprise to see a strong contingent of health tech solutions from in this year's list, from healthcare technology platforms (Abarca Health), medical imaging (Diss) and telehealth (Medplus, Dzeus) to pharmaceutical (Rebexa, Biopharma) to digital support in care (Evocare). Technology for health includes personal storage device to keep medicine cool (INSU) to virtual reality solutions for health conditions (MelioraCentrum).
Environment Solutions include climate data for decision-making (TerraFirma), and water solutions such as Remora, which provides clean and potable water through off-grid water filtration device regenerative agriculture tais and Carbonwave, which develops ultra-regenerative, plant-based, advanced biomaterials from seaweed. Finance and technology for social impact include insurance solutions (Cuvro, Raincoat) and personal finance (Kiwi), data analytics (Nagnoi) and technology (Wovenware) solutions.

A mature cohort with room to further support early stage companies
43% of the cohort was founded 8+ years ago, illustrating the more mature age profile, particularly in the health segment. There is also a strong scale-up contingent, particularly from the education and skills group (StreamTechnologies, Telecubes, Terminal34) and the Finance & Tech group (Sociants, Threshold.world, BrainHi)
Globally, it's been a tough few years for early stage startups with a more difficult funding environment post-pandemic, however we see a good number of early stage teams founded less than three years ago, including those in health cloud services (Coqui Health), digital data capture solutions for speciality crop production (Abacrop), and circular economy startup Materia Madura, that uses local waste as a resource to design everyday products. New energy infrastructure also features in this new crop with Proranked, offering EV charger management software.
